My Interpretation of John 1 (and the Word)

Here is my interpretation:

>1 In the beginning was the Word,

The Word is Christ and existed in the beginning.

>and the Word was with God,

Christ was with the Father.

>and the Word was God.

Christ is part of the Godhead. He is one with the Father.

>2 The same was in the beginning with God.

Same.

>3 All things were made by him;

He is also the father. He created all temporal things under the direction of God the Father. Thus Christ (the Son) is the Father of all temporal things. But God the Father organized everything spiritually, including the Son making Him the Father of the Son.

>and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Again. God the Father made all things through his Son, Jesus Christ.

About this book Read this bookThe Ante-Nicene Fathers: Translations of the Writings of the Fathers Down to ... By Alexander Roberts,

A description by Mathetes in his epistle of Christ's role in the creation.

For, as I said, this was no mere earthly invention which was delivered to them, nor is it a mere human system of opinion, which they judge it right to preserve so carefully, nor has a dispensation of mere human mysteries been committed to them, but truly God Himself, who is almighty, the Creator of all things, and invisible, has sent from heaven, and placed among men, [Him who is] the truth, and the holy and incomprehensible Word, and has firmly established Him in their hearts. He did not, as one might have imagined, send to men any servant, or angel, or ruler, or any one of those who bear sway over earthly things, or one of those to whom the government of things in the heavens has been entrusted, but the very Creator and Fashioner of all things — by whom He made the heavens — by whom he enclosed the sea within its proper bounds — whose ordinances " all the stars IJ faithfully observe — from whom the sun M has received the measure of his daily course to be observedI5—whom the moon obeys, being commanded to shine in the night, and whom the stars also obey, following the moon in her course ; by whom all things have been arranged, and placed within their proper limits, and to whom all are subject — the heavens and the things that are therein, the earth and the things that are therein, the sea and the things that are therein — fire, air, and the abyss — the things which are in the heights, the things which are in the depths, and the things which lie between.

Following the Prophet

First Presidency Message by
President Gordon B. Hinckley

The message consists of various thoughts presented by the prophet. The Lord gives us a prophet to teach and testify, guiding us in our lives. We know a prophet is of the Lord through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Inspirational Thoughts

This is the last dispensation, and God has “restored His work with all of its powers, with all of its glory and all of the truth and all of the authority of all previous dispensations.” in this great and final period of time. The prophet’s testimony is that “our Eternal Father lives,” that “Jesus is the Christ,” and “we may be bound together as families for time and all eternity.” The book of revelation is not closed, and “God directs this day and time and speaks” today. If “you have any doubt concerning any doctrine of this Church, … put it to the test. Try it. Live the principle. Get on your knees and pray about it.” The Lord will bless you with knowledge of the truth of this work.” Stand above evil. The very purpose of this work is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man through an “eternal compact that time cannot destroy and death cannot break,” by being sealed in the temple.[C]ome to the temple. Live worthy to come to the temple. Live the commandments of God so that you may come to the temple. Do those things which will make you eligible to serve in the house of the Lord.” Priesthood holders, “live worthy of it,” and “never do anything which would destroy our effectiveness as His sons in exercising” the priesthood. Jesus Christ is Creator, the “promised Messiah,” and the “Resurrection and the Life.” “We love Him. We honor Him. We thank Him. We worship Him.” His atonement is “the greatest event in human history.”

For the Home Teachers

Explain the importance of a prophet, and the role of a seer. Discuss how we can know these concepts came from God, and testify we can know by the Holy Ghost.v

Sanctified through the law

D&C 88 discusses sanctification and eternal life. We are sanctified through the law. We need to be sanctified to receive celestial glory. This sanctification comes through Christ. Fulfilling the measure of our creation is to be crowned with glory and live forever with the Eternal Father. The celestial kingdom was created for man to inherit.

There aren't really any scriptural references to "community".

What is important by Br. Kelly

What is important.

1 Jesus is the Christ
2 We are children of God
3 Free agency
4 4th aticle of faith
5 families are forever

Talk to son about school and preparing for mission. Eagle scput and DTG, graduate from high school and seminary, go on mission, get married in temple.

Loved to knock doors. Mission president sent elders who were homesick to Kelly to learn to love tracting. Converted around 1,500 per month for 200 missionaries.

Kelly there to help prepare them for mission, so they can stand on own two feet and say Jesus is the Christ.

Punishment for doing wrong was tilling the rose bushes. Great rose bushes. While working he heard mom express concern that son was not going to church because he wanted to. Dad said that he is putting good stuff in and we will get the good stuff out.
