Accountability

3 And verily in this thing ye have done wisely, for it is required of the Lord, at the hand of every asteward, to render an baccount of his cstewardship, both in time and in eternity.

Every steward must give an account of his stewardship. David O. McKay mentioned that we will all have personal priesthood interviews with the Lord with an accountability report on:

  1. Our relationship with your wife. "Have you actively been engaged in making her happy and ensuring that her needs have been met as an individual?"

  2. Our children, individually. "He will not attempt to have this for simply a family stewardship, but will request information about your relationship to each and every child."

  3. What we have personally done with the talents given in the pre-existence.

  4. A summary of our activity in our church assignments. "He will not necessarily be interested in what assignments you have had, for in his eyes the home teacher and the mission presidents are probably equals, He will request a summary of how you have been of service to your fellowmen in your church assignments."

  5. Whether we were honest in all our dealings.

  6. What we have done to contribute in a positive manner to our community, state, country, and the world.
From the notes of Fred A. Baker, Managing Director, Department of Physical Facilities. Quoted by Robert D. Hales, Presiding Bishop of the Church, at a BYU Devotional assembly, March 15, 1988

And the elders of the Church are to render an account to the Bishop.

elders of the church in this part of my vineyard shall render an account of their stewardship unto the abishop
D&C 72: 3-5, 11, 13, 16, 19, 22, 26

Nephi makes an account of his proceedings in his days, but summarizes the account given by his father, Lehi. 1 Ne. 1: 16-17

Lord commands Nephi to make an account of the spiritual proceedings of the people. 1 Ne. 9: 2-4

Mormon does not give a full accounting of the wickedness on his summary plates, but does on the plates of Nephi. Morm. 2: 18

Be grateful for what we receive from God, and "account" it of God. D&C 50: 34 Thus perhaps we need to give an accounting to God daily of what we have received from him.

Those who receive the gospel and the everlasting covenant are "accounted" of God. D&C 101: 39, 78 They are the salt of the world. But God warns that if the salt loses its savor...
