D&C 124: 91, 103, 126, 136, 142
The Lord discusses various aspects of counselors. He is displeased with Almon Babbitt because he lays out his own counsel, as opposed to the counsel of the Lord. When we put forward our own counsel (relying on the arm of flesh?) the Lord likens it to a golden calf for the "worship" of the Lord's people. Later on, Elder Babbitt is disfellowshipped for teaching doctrine contrary to that of the First Presidency. He also advised the saints to stop in places "not appointed for the gathering." MINUTES OF A CONFERENCE OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER DAY SAINTS, HELD IN NAUVOO, ILLINOIS, COMMENCING OCTOBER 1, 1841
Elder Babbitt was a defender of Sidney Rigdon later in 1843, when people believed Elder Rigdon had been disloyal to the Church and President Joseph Smith. Elder Babbitt was later restored to the Church.
